Hi, I am Juraj Zilincar


Photography is my way of capturing the precise dynamics of movement and the atmosphere of a fleeting moment. I fully understand and respect how essential it is for dance companies to showcase their artistic maturity, high standards, and demanding technique. The purpose of my work is to capture not only the visual aesthetics of a production, but also the uncompromising technical precision of the dancers in the exact fraction of a second. My journey behind the lens did not begin in a studio—it started directly on stage.


I dedicated more than two decades to the world of professional ballet. Following my studies at the Eva Jaczová Dance Conservatory in Bratislava, I spent 22 years with the Ballet of the Slovak National Theatre. I rose from a member of the corps de ballet to a soloist, and my performances were recognized with awards from the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. These years provided me with an in-depth, practical understanding of the theatrical space, stage lighting, and the inner workings of stage productions—from rehearsal studios to the main stage.


This intimate knowledge of the environment forms the foundation of my photography. As a former dancer, I can read choreographies with precision, feel the rhythm, and anticipate the peak moments of movement. Throughout these years in the theatre, I developed a profound respect for the intimacy of the theatrical world and absolute professionalism. I complemented my hands-on stage experience with studies at the Academy of Creative Photography in Bratislava, culminating in an international degree.


Today, I channel this lifelong expertise through my camera. My photographs shape the visual identity of marketing and promotional campaigns for the Slovak National Theatre, where I document ballet, opera, and drama productions. I also collaborate on a long-term basis with prominent artistic institutions, including the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), the Eva Jaczová Dance Conservatory, the State Opera Ballet in Banská Bystrica, and other leading companies.
